Measuring Guide for Curtains

IMPORTANT: Where possible we recommend that custom made curtains are measured and hung by a professional fitter.

Measuring Curtain Width

Measuring Curtain Width

Measure the track or pole (a) and not the window. The track or pole should extend beyond each side of your window to enable your curtains to be pulled well back during the day. The usual allowance is at least 15.2cm (6″) of track either side of the window, you may need to add more for very wide windows. If a curtain overlap is required add (b) plus (c) for the final track width.

Length of Curtain

Measuring Curtain Length

The length is a matter of personal preference but there are three basic lengths to choose from.

Sill Length (d), Below Sill (c), and Floor Length (b). Curtains should ideally finish 1.3cm (1/2″) above the sill, 15.2cm (6″) below the sill or 2.5cm (1″) from the floor.

Measure from the top of the curtain to the appropriate point.

Length measurements given, must cover total curtain length including chosen heading type;

Tab Top Heading

Tab Top headings have 10cm long taps which is included in the drop, you will need to measure from the top of the pole.

Eyelet Heading

Add 3cm to height of the curtains measuring from the top of the pole to allow for the eyelets.

Pencil Pleat and Pinch Pleat Headings

If you are using a pole you will need to measure from the underside of the curtain ring, if you are using a curtain track then measure from the top of the track.
