Throughout the past year Hole in the Wall Curtains (Walsall) have been lucky enough to play a part in an extensive refurbishment programme that has taken place at Rodbaston Hall, in Penkridge, Staffordshire.
Following initial contact from South Staffordshire College, the owners of Rodbaston Hall, The Hole in the Wall Team set about designing, custom making and eventually fitting a selection of curtains, pelmets, voiles and blinds to the venue’s functions rooms, boardroom along with the Principal’s office.
Now, we don’t want to come across as show offs, but we were so pleased to receive this lovely thank you message recently that we just can’t resist sharing it with you…
I am just writing to let you know how very pleased and satisfied I am with my new curtains. First of all with the help and attention I received from Katie in choosing materials at the Hole in the Wall in Walsall.
Then from Denise at Fabric Direct (Kidderminster), who gave excellent advice and suggestions, in a very professional and understanding way of my particular requirements. This attention to detail and care for the customer is very rare indeed in this day and age. Denise took great pains to make sure that I was happy with the finished result.
Also the fitter, Phil, could not have been more careful and respectful in doing a very professional job. He was also someone that I felt happy to have in the house, which again is not always the way.
So to sum up, I am very pleased with the end result, and very impressed with the service and courtesy that I have received from start to finish.
Also I would not hesitate to recommend any of the above persons to any of my friends or neighbours.
Miss P (Halesowen)”

Our very own Martin Silvester is famous! Yes, the rumours are true, our Stock Controller extraordinaire has been featured in Mark Power’s Black Country Stories – a photography exhibition currently taking place at the New Art Gallery in Walsall.
Mark Power is using his Black Country Stories exhibition to display a series of urban landscapes created in response to his own experiences of the Black Country. Mark goes on to explain that the photographs aim is to “reveal the splendour of the forgotten and the everyday, where a quiet yet simmering beauty begins to emerge.”
Excitingly, Mark Power has chosen to use our Hole in the Wall Curtains store in Walsall as one of his chosen landscapes, and (arguably) more importantly, the photograph also features Martin’s back! Obviously Martin is claiming that he is the beauty in the midst of the everyday… But we’ll let you make your own mind up!
As you will see when you visit our Hole in the Wall Curtains store in Walsall, the signage has now been re-painted and continues to be a focal point for the store exterior. The photograph also shows a glimpse of the Hole in the Wall mural that was commissioned in 2007, this famous piece of art is just another reason that makes visiting Hole in the Wall Curtains a unique experience.

On Saturday 30th June 2012 ‘Hole in the Wall Curtains‘ were part of an historic moment, an estimated 50,000 people descended on their hometown of Walsall to line the streets in the hope of catching a glimpse of the Olympic Torch on day 43 of its relay.
To further add to festivities, flag waving locals were treated to a sighting of boyband ‘The Wanted’ who merrily joined in the celebrations by banging the bongos on a float leading the procession.
But, as if that wasn’t enough, the ‘Hole in the Wall Curtains’ team have got even further into the spirit by supplying curtains for a shop based in and around the Olympic Village!
This prestigious opportunity arrived via a Shrewsbury based shop fitting company, but with the games fast approaching our onsite workroom are having to pull out all the stops to make sure they are ready in time…
If you’d like more details about the specialist custom made service available please feel free to contact our Walsall team on 01922 631512! Further pictures of the torches visit to Wall can be found on our ‘Hole in the Wall Curtains Group‘ Facebook page.
It’s amazing what can be achieved with time, skill, hard work and some imagination… Take a look how children from St Anne’s Catholic Primary School, Streetly, (with a bit of help from Mrs Acton) created a magnificent handmade banner celebrating the Olympics using fabrics (and other crafty bits) from the Hole in the Wall Curtains!
- From the start of this exciting Olympic themed project all of the St Anne’s pupils got involved. The first challenge was to come up with some ideas that could be used on the final banner. As you can see, they weren’t short of inspiration…
- Once a design was finalised the St Anne’s pupils, under the expert tuition of Mrs Acton, set about making their masterpiece…
- Students used a range of different techniques and materials to create their Olympic banner. The pupils sewed and glued felt letters to the banner to help spell out what the Olympics, and representing St Anne’s, meant to them!
- Following a lot of hard work from all pupils and staff concerned the banner neared completion and was readied for its grand unveiling!
- SUCCESS!! Here is the completed banner at its first public event?! The pupils took their Olympic banner to the Alexander Stadium where they represented their school (against others from the Walsall area) in a track and field day. Together with looking amazing, the banner also inspired the St Anne’s kids into an overall 1st place…
Congratulations from everyone at the Hole in the Wall Curtains Group!

Here at ‘Hole in the Wall Curtains‘ we are VERY excited to announce the arrival of a brand new fashionable and quirky range of fabrics and wallpapers…
The collection comes courtesy of Scion, here’s how they introduce their new brand:
“The Harlequin group is proud to present Scion, a refreshing new brand which is set to have a huge impact on the world of interior design.
Scion was conceived to fill an obvious gap in the market for an affordable yet uncompromising stylish range of interior products. The brand has been created with a trend savvy, fashion aware customer in mind, its products are cutting-edge, accessibly priced and forward looking, but with an enduring appeal and intrinsic individuality.
The debut collection, Melinki, comprises of an eclectic mix of printed fabrics, embroideries, jacquards, coordinating plains and complementary wallpapers, inspired in part by mid-century archive documents. Refreshingly uncomplicated yet powerfully effective, Melinki consciously channels fashion motifs and colours, as well as offering more than a passing nod to modern, Scandinavian design.
Melinki bestows the freedom to create a diverse range of moods and looks through its eclectic designs and cool clean colour groups including costal calm, retro kitsch, Bakelite brights and urban neutrals.
Scion is justifiably proud of its British roots: its printed fabrics and wallcoverings are all manufactured in the UK, by factories that have clear commitments and initiative towards the care of the environment and to sustainability.”
We’d strongly advise coming to see the new designs for yourself, we’re pretty sure you won’t be disappointed! Also, please feel free to call our Walsall team on 01922 631512 with any other questions.
The challenge has been set… Clarke and Clarke, one of the fabric industry’s leading suppliers, are currently running a competition for the ‘Best Dressed Window’. So, not being one to turn down a challenge, we have decided to enter!
Once completed the window will be dressed with a flat pelmet, roman blind, curtains and tiebacks all of which will be custom made in our own onsite workroom. The coordinating fabrics used to create our ‘masterpiece’ will be taken from the Clarke and Clarke Maritime collection, here’s a little bit more about the range:
“Inspired by the British seaside, the charming range of coordinated printed cottons provide endless opportunities for both classical and contemporary interiors.
There are a total of 7 patterns including Seashells, Seabirds, Coral and Skipper and to compliment, a useful deck chair stripe, spot and geometric. All patterns are available in the sophisticated shades of Mist, Marine, Surf, Sand and Mineral.”
Our entry must be made, draped and submitted no later than the 30th May! We’ll keep you posted with our progress, fingers crossed…
Oh, and if you want to find out any further information about the Clarke and Clarke Maritime collection, or any of the made to measure services we have on offer, please feel free to give us a call on 01922 631512 or email using our contact form.
